Ron Benoit spent more than 35 years improving the lives of countless boys and girls that passed through the doors of the TCMS gym. As a coach, as well as director, at Taunton CYO, Ron invested a great deal of energy in supporting and mentoring youth from all across his community.
Ron’s involvement with local youth did not stop at CYO. Over the years he dedicated his time to coaching Eastern and Western Little League, Babe Ruth, Senior Babe Ruth, and American Legion baseball. Unwilling to limit his focus to the diamond, Ron also proudly coached Pop Warner and The Weir Tigers of Taunton Junior Football. In recognition of his outstanding character, leadership, and service to the youth of the greater Taunton community, Ron received the 2007 Man of the Year award from the Taunton Boys and Girls Club.
The impact of his tireless efforts and devotion are undeniable, as many of those whose paths crossed with Ron’s can attribute a measure of their own success to his guiding hand and influence.
Sadly, Ron passed away in 2010, leaving behind a legacy of community service that will serve as a model for years to come. It is out of a desire to honor this man and his legacy that Ron’s friends and family have come together to establish the Ron Benoit Memorial Golf Tournament and Scholarship Fund.
This annual scholarship, intended for high school seniors associated with Taunton area sports, shall be awarded to those who best reflect the qualities Ron instilled upon his players and other youth; leadership, work ethic and dedication, teamwork and cooperation, as well as the ability and willingness to be a positive role model.
